100 Letters To A Dead Mother

BUBLISHER WSOY, 2019
NOMINATED FOR RUNEBERG-PRIZE
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK OF THE YEAR- PRIZE

One Hundred Letters to a Dead Mother is a story of loss, sorrow, and how to learn to live in an irreversibly changed world. In this work Niskala weaves her intimate familiar history into a bright artwork.

Narration coming out not only as a book, but a book and extra parts, she stretches the boundaries of an idea of a book and narration.

The following add-ons for this book can be ordered separately:

A TELEPHONE SERMON presented by the author

A SMALL BOOK ABOUT A SIDE PERSON CALLED GRANDPA

ADULT STICKER CALENDAR

SONG OVER DEATH - audio recording. The song can be downloaded from the internet as no one should die involuntarily alone. After the artist's own life and even after the death of the Internet, the song can be found in digital form in the archives of the National Library.

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Selma Vilhunen is preparing a movie based on Niskala’s book.

Niskala's fictional debut work A Hundred Letters to a Dead Mother combines fragmentary writing, the means of letter form and autofictional prose. It is a sad work that, despite its challenging subject, is supported by airy, bright language. The typographic outfit and visual composition of the work are also an influential part of both narrative and aesthetic expression. A Hundred Letters to a Dead Mother is not only a concrete but also a visionary example of how private experiences can be edited and processed through art and given away, as a gift.
